About the powder

What is passion fruit powder?

Passion fruit powder is the dried pulp of passion fruit, Passiflora edulis, milled into a fine powder. The plant is a climbing vine native to South America and now grown in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. Its round fruit has a wrinkled purple or yellow skin and a fragrant, juicy pulp full of small black seeds.

The pulp owes its sharp, tropical taste to natural fruit acids, balanced by its own sugars and a strong aroma. As a powder, that flavour is easy to measure and mixes straight into dry ingredients, with no seeds to strain and no extra liquid to thin a frosting or filling. It gives only a light yellow tint, so it is used mainly for flavour: in cheesecake, mousse, frosting, macarons, yoghurt and drinks.

FAQ

Passion fruit powder FAQ

Can’t find your answer? Email info@theorganiclabs.com.

What does passion fruit powder taste like?

Tangy and tropical, with a mix of sweet and tart notes and the fragrant aroma of fresh passion fruit. It is sharper than most fruit powders, so even a small amount is noticeable in creamy and sweet recipes.

How do I use passion fruit powder?

Blend it into smoothies, whisk it into a little water for lemonade and iced tea, or sift it into frosting, cheesecake filling, mousse and yoghurt. Start with 1–2 tsp for a smoothie or 2–3 tsp for 100 g frosting, then add more to taste.

Can I bake with passion fruit powder?

Yes. Add it to cake batter, muffins or cookie dough together with the flour. Oven heat softens fruit aromas, so for a clear passion fruit taste also use it in the frosting, glaze or filling.

Does passion fruit powder colour food?

Only lightly. It gives a soft yellow tint, so it is mainly a flavour ingredient. Use it where you want the taste of passion fruit, and choose a colour powder if you need a strong colour.

Is passion fruit the same as maracuja?

Yes. Maracujá, often written maracuja, is the Portuguese name for passion fruit, Passiflora edulis, and is common on food labels in Europe. Purple granadilla and lilikoi are other names for the same species.

Can I use passion fruit powder in cocktails and mocktails?

Yes. Shake 1 tsp per glass with ice, lime and a little syrup, or whisk it into the syrup first so it mixes evenly. It goes well with lime, mint, ginger, coconut and sparkling water.

How should I store passion fruit powder?

Store it in a cool place below 25°C. Fruit powders take up moisture from the air, so close the pack tightly after use and always use a dry spoon.

Where do you ship from?

From Sweden. Orders placed by 14:00 ship the same day, and delivery takes 1–3 days in Sweden and 3–6 days in the EU. Shipping is free on retail packs over €75.
